For some of us, exercise is the last thing on our minds when we have escaped somewhere tropical like Port Douglas for a holiday. Although – there are plenty of people who love to stay on the fitness train while away and we totally get that. For that reason, we’re going to share the top ways to stay active in PD so that you can avoid that dreaded unfit feeling upon your return home!
The good news is; exercising in Far North Queensland usually means being amongst the great outdoors and having a whole heap of fun along the way. Let’s get into it.
Beach Yoga
Recently, theYoga on the Beach company has celebrated 15 years of teaching magical yoga classes in Port Douglas! Each morning from 8am to 9am, you can zen out with this fabulous crew on the gorgeous Four Mile Beach in the early sunshine. There are single or three class passes available to best suit your holiday needs. Each class is easily adaptable for beginners and yogis alike! If you want to take things up a notch, head into Deep Yoga Studio for incredible yin, Pilates and flow classes, just to name a few.
Nature Walks
There will be no surprises when we say that Tropical North Queensland is home to some really epic outdoor walking sites! There are sensational places to discover that are situated in and around Port Douglas, the Daintree and Cape Tribulation; you can check them out here. While you’re in town, be sure to take a stroll through the amazing and newly renovated Flagstaff Hill trail for some mind-blowing views over the dreamy Coral Sea.
Bike Rides
Not only will hiring pushbikes help to keep you fit and healthy on holidays, but you’ll become your next best tour guide, too. There’s a lot to see here in our little beachside town, and you’re bound to see it all with the help of PD Bike Hire. From Pool Resort, you can cruise into town to explore the boutique shops, impressive restaurants and the Sunday markets. Don’t forget to ride home along Four Mile Beach for some idyllic ocean action!
Hikes
Take a hike! Whether you run, hop, skip or jump – this is easily one of the most rewarding ways to break a sweat in FNQ. Ten minutes of climbing up the notorious Bump Track and you WILL be feeling the burn! Get your heart racing with some waterfall exploring, or try your hand at the Devil’s Thumb in Mossman. If you are up for a real challenge, take yourself on a drive to face Mount Bartle Frere – the highest mountain in Queensland! Or not…

Yep – swimming certainly counts as fitness. And with all the tropical warmth this town delivers, you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be doing a lot of it! Aside from the glorious horizon pool at the resort, there is an abundance of beautiful swimming holes where you can get your body moving in FNQ. Watersports
Have you ever wanted to give kitesurfing a go, or perhaps see what all the fuss is about with stand up paddle boarding?
